Earlier this week, the Government issued new Covid-19 guidance for England which has a significant impact on Basketball England’s Return To Play plans.
Following the announcement from the Prime Minister on 22 September, indoor Under-18s basketball and senior elite basketball remain exempt from the ‘rule of six’ social distancing restrictions.
But from Thursday 24 September, senior indoor sport, other than at elite level, must only take place in groups of up to six people - with Sport England confirming adults from different households taking part in non-elite indoor team basketball do not have to social distance within those groups.
We have opened dialogue with the Government to discuss the negative impact of their latest Covid-19 rules on basketball and to ascertain if adjustments can be made in a number of areas. We will update the basketball community as soon as possible.
