We are seeking new recruits for our Senior Men’s team competing in Division 4 South West of the England Basketball League. We welcome any local players who are keen to step up to national competition. We will again have a predominantly young team, and we are looking for players who will enjoy an all-court, fast-paced style of play with high defensive intensity. The season runs from late September to March, with around 24 games, but we will be training over the summer (on Thursdays at Cirencester Deer Park School 7-9 pm). Home games and most away games will be on Saturdays, with the very occasional Sunday.
Players who play for other clubs in the GBBA or other leagues are very welcome, provided they can make the training and match dates. Please note that the Jets team in the GBBA competition is run totally separately, as an extra informal playing opportunity for those players who wish it. There is no particular expectation that EBL players will take part, and no advantage in doing so, in terms of selection for the EBL team.
Anyone interested is welcome to attend training on Thursday 20 May, or to have an informal discussion beforehand.
For young players we are running EBL teams in the following age groups (as at 1 September 2010), with training running from now on at Deer Park:
- U18 boys: Thursdays 6-8
- U16 boys: Wednesdays 7-9
- U14 girls: Wednesdays 6-7.30
- U14 boys: Fridays 7-9
We are particularly keen to see new members (boys and girls) in the two U14 groups: experience is not essential, just a lot of effort and the willingness to learn quickly!
