Gloucestershire Basketball Officials Association

A small steering group recently met to discuss the formation of a new Gloucestershire Basketball Officials Association. As you will already know from Paul Christensens previous email, the purpose of the association will be to support the development of local referees and to provide a broad-based forum for discussion between local officials. We also felt that it would be appropriate to include table officials as they are obviously an integral part of the officiating team and we will be looking to offer similar development opportunities for those wishing to pursue this strand of officiating.

It was agreed by all present that we would like to get as many people as possible on the steering group so that we can be sure that we are representative of a wide range of views. We would be delighted to hear from anyone interested in being involved.

The GBBA has very kindly agreed to ring-fence some funds for us to use for the development of local officials. We also agreed that funds would be raised through membership fees. These have been set at £10 per person, per annum.

Obviously, membership is not compulsory. However, we would encourage as many people as possible to join. This is an opportunity for all local officials to play a part in raising standards, participation and, above all, enjoyment of the game. Whether you are someone who is content to just take on local league games or someone who wishes to move through the levels and officiate in the higher leagues, we hope to provide something of value to everyone.

If you are interested in becoming a member, please contact me by email or by phone for further details.
